Sam Fiifi Mills, son of late President J.E.A. is delighted that the Cricket Association and the Ministry of Sports have organized a Cricket Top 4 tournament in honour of his father.
In his very first interview with XYZ News after the death and burial of his father, Sam Fiifi Mills said the tournament is a really good initiative that will etch his father's legacy in the annals of Cricket in Ghana.
“As we all know, he was a great sportsman. I really appreciate everything that they’ve done to even consider doing something like this; not forgetting about him but trying to build up on the legacy that he left behind,” he added.
Meanwhile, the maiden edition of the competition got off at the Achimota Cricket Oval over the weekend.
The initiative which is under the auspices of the India High Commission is been held in honour of late president, Professor John Evans Atta Mills who contributed immensely to the growth of the sports in Ghana.
President Mills was an avid sports man and a celebrated Cricket player. He has also been credited with the development of the sports at the University level across the country.
On his part, the Minister of Sports, Mr. Clement Kofi Humado, showered praises on the India High Commissioner for organizing such an event since it is a way of institutionalizing the late president’s legacy in Sports.
In the first game, the under 17 team beat veterans by 56runs and BGC also beat Bel Aqua by 26runs.
