When on August 22, 2023, a royal group of the Waala Traditional Area known as "Wa Nabihi (Princess)" held a Press Conference in the area to pledge their support for the candidature of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, during his visit to the region, many, including royals, non-royals, polititicians and politicitical observervers alike, regarded it as an overwhelming statement and endorsement by the Council ahead of the party's crucial special voting on Saturday, August 26.
According to them, their pledge to support him was because he was a royal from Northern Ghana vying to become the President of the country and not necessarily the politics of it.
However, another royal group on Friday August 25, 2025, calling themselves "Waale Nabiihi (Princess and Princesses)" has also come out with a Press Conference dismissing the earlier Presser by the other group describing the move as usurping the authority of the Overlord of the Traditional Area who they claimed was neither in the known of that first Press Conference by the pro-Bawumia royal group let alone sanctioning it.
The Presser was headlined, "Waale Nabiihi (Princes and Princesses) did not endorse or declare support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's candidature for NPP Presidential Primaries. 25/08/23.
According to the Press Conference addressed by Naa Hamid Badiu Ahmed, all checks by the group from the four main recognizable gates of the kingdom indicated that the said Presser by some royals who are loyalists of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia led by one Mr. Jamal Adama Kpegla was not sanctioned by the traditional authorities neither were they in the known of it at all.
"Our checks from all the
the royal gates and the Overlord of the Waala Traditional Kingdom, Wa Naa Fuseini Pelpuo IV vindicated that they have no knowledge and did not sanction that press conference. At what point did the Waala Traditional Council delegate those so-called Waale Nabiihi to organize that press conference usurping the
lawful authority of the Waala
Traditional Council?"
While rubbishing the Press conference by the 'unofficial' group, Naa Hamid educated that: "Per our own laws and practice, the Waala Traditional Council or Secretariat remains the only recognized highest decision-making body of the Kingdom which is made up of the four royal gates, namely; Yijihi Gate, represented by Busa Naa, Naa Jeri Gate represented by Kperisi-Naa, Jonyuohi Gate represented by Sing Naa and Naa-Kpaha Gate, represented by Guli-Naa, not that unofficial group.
The group further pooh-poohed the argument of the pro-Bawumia royal group that their support for the Vice President was because he was seen as a royal from Northern Ghana, hence, their decision to pledge their support for him to make their own succeed.
The group describes the argument as lame and a hypocrisy on their part wondering why they never saw the need to afford the late President Dr. Hilla Limann, late Vice President Aliu Mahama, former President John Dramani Mahama and the Rt. Hon. Speaker Alban Sunmaana Bagbin the same support as they now deem fit to give to the Veep since historically, all the aforementioned at one point in time, all contested to lead the nation.
"The group also indicated in their press conference that they pledged their support for the Vice President Dr. Bawumia because he is a Royal from Northern Ghana. We see this as a mark of hypocrisy since this is not the first time a Royal from Northern Ghana is contesting to become a President of Ghana.
Historically, the late President, Dr. Hilla Limann contested for Presidency on the ticket of the People’s National Party (PNP) in the year 1979 who was never being endorsed by such a group. The late Vice President Aliu Mahama contested for Presidency in 2008 but was never being endorsed by such group. Also, President John Dramani Mahama contested in 2012 and 2016, and as a matter of fact, he
is still contesting to become a President of Ghana in 2024 yet this self-seeking group never saw it prudent to declare their support for him.
"The Right Honorable Speaker Alban Sunmaana Bagbin ever contested in the 2018 NDC Presidential Primaries but was never being enndorsed by any group.
"Infact, it is worth noting that all these personalities mentioned are royals from Northern Ghana and as northerners, we see our selves as one people from the same descendant," it stated.
The Presser also charged the National Security to be of interest in the floutering of the constitution in such a manner by the other group while calling on royals to continue to be the custodians of beacon of peace, unity and development.
"Also, we wish to state that, that press conference organized by that group should trigger national
security attention because the 1957 Discrimination Act, banned politics of tribal, religion and other forms of discrimination in Ghana.
"As royals and custodians of tradition of the people, we should be seen as beacon of peace, unity and development and not detractors of peace, as exhibited by that group."
