Amnesty International Ghana is calling for an independent investigation into the alleged police abuse of protesters arrested during the recent Democracy Hub demonstration against illegal mining.
The organization expressed concern over ongoing violations of citizens' rights during protests, especially ahead of the upcoming elections.
Country Director Genevieve Partington urged a review of protest laws and demanded a list of detained individuals for proper access and care.
Currently, 53 protesters remain in custody following clashes with police, with their hearings adjourned as bail applications are processed.
