The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has launched an in-depth investigation into corruption linked to illegal small-scale mining, or “galamsey,” in Ghana.

This initiative responds to growing concerns over environmental damage, especially to water bodies, caused by unregulated mining. Civil society organizations are urging the government to declare a state of emergency in affected regions.

The investigation will not only identify violations of mining laws but also explore the corruption enabling illegal operations, focusing on the roles of influential individuals involved.
