Burkina Faso has introduced new biometric passports devoid of the ECOWAS logo, underscoring its commitment to withdraw from the West African regional bloc.
This move follows Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali's joint announcement in January to leave ECOWAS, a decision that the bloc has tried to reverse.
Security Minister Mahamadou Sana confirmed that the removal of the ECOWAS emblem reflects Burkina Faso’s ongoing detachment from the organization.
The departure of these countries, now under military rule, threatens regional stability and freedom of movement as they strengthen ties with Russia and form the Alliance of Sahel States.
