John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer, has announced plans to eliminate several taxes within his first 90 days if elected, aiming to reduce economic hardships and business costs.
The taxes to be scrapped include the E-levy, COVID levy, a 10% levy on bet winnings, and the emissions levy.
Additionally, Mahama plans to review import duties on vehicles and industrial/agricultural equipment, adjust fuel levies to cushion consumers, and reform port fees to ease the burden on importers.
His VAT reform agenda includes reversing certain VAT changes, exempting micro businesses, and repealing VAT on domestic electricity.
To boost revenue, Mahama proposes broadening the tax base, closing collection loopholes, and reviewing tax exemptions.
