Staff groups at the Volta River Authority (VRA) are opposing a draft bill that proposes merging VRA with the Bui Power Authority and other major changes in Ghana's energy sector.
The bill also suggests merging the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) with the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) and creating an independent Thermal Power Authority from VRA’s thermal plants.
The workers argue that these reforms could weaken VRA's role, compromise energy security, and lead to the sale of VRA assets to private interests.
They vow to resist any moves that threaten affordable electricity and energy security for Ghanaians.
