Police in Dzodze, within the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta region, have arrested some 45 persons including a nursing mother for flouting the ban of social gathering amid the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
According to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Anthony Avorgbedor, the people most of whom are youth were partying and swimming in a guest house (name withheld) in Dzodze at about 2 pm on today, Sunday 12, 2020.
He noted that he has ordered the Municipal Police Command to pick up the persons because, " some are adhering to the directives but some are not taking it seriously, they have never heard about plague before".
Mr. Avorgbedor said, the 45 persons and the nursing mother will be released from the Police custody in exception of the owner of the guest house saying, " we will let them go home any moment from now but we will caution them, the owner of the place will sleep here, we've warned him but he failed to adhere so he will sleep at the cell until tomorrow (Monday 13, April).
He indicated, there will be a continuous education on the pandemic in the Municipality because the area is a developing place, sharing its borders with several districts and the republic of Togo, therefore "we must educate the people well, and we pray not to record any case in the Municipality”
