120 containers of pharmaceutical products still stuck at Tema Port

About 120 containers of TB and malaria medicines donated by Global Fund to Ghana are stuck at Tema Port due to clearance delays.

The medicines, received between August 2023 and February 2024, are urgently needed but their shelf life is expiring.

Despite tax waivers, demurrages and third-party charges of GHS 7 million are pending.

The Executive Secretary of Ghana Country Coordinating Mechanism of Global Fund, Samuel Hackman, is concerned about the slow pace of government action, warning that it may strain the relationship with Global Fund and impact future grants.
