AG defends prosecution of galamsey protestors, citing threats to national peace

Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame has justified the prosecution of Democracy Hub members for unlawful actions during their protest against illegal mining.

Speaking at a conference, he emphasized that freedom of expression must be responsible and lawful.

Dame cited international examples of consequences for protesters who disrupt public order and urged the judiciary to support law enforcement in maintaining peace ahead of the 2024 elections.

He also instructed the police to expedite investigations into recent protests, asserting that actions threatening public safety cannot be defended under free expression.
