Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame has called for reforms to Africa's international arbitration processes, highlighting the financial and legal disadvantages African nations face.
Speaking at the International Bar Association's conference in Mexico City, Dame expressed concerns about the secrecy and finality of arbitration proceedings, which can lead to unfair outcomes for African countries.
He urged for arbitration cases involving African nations to be conducted in Africa under local laws, citing Ghana’s move to amend its arbitration framework.
Dame also emphasized the importance of cross-border legal practice reforms and African lawyers’ role in supporting the AfCFTA’s dispute settlement body.
