Accra is projected to face increased congestion by 2030 due to significant population growth, according to Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) data.
The Greater Accra Region will see a substantial rise in school-aged children, expected to reach 2.96 million by 2030, and a near doubling of the youth population aged 15 to 24.
Ghana’s total population, currently over 33 million, was 30.8 million in 2021. Deputy Government Statistician, Dr. Faustina Frempong, urged government intervention in managing growth in the densely populated region.
The projections aim to inform policymakers and track national and global development goals.
