Former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, has said: “I would think that nobody is happy with what is happening at the Electoral Commission”, in reference to the firing of his successor Mrs Charlotte Osei by President Nana Akufo-Addo and the subsequent appointment of Mrs Jean Mensa as a replacement.
Mrs Osei and her two deputies, Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwah threw allegations against themselves in the public domain leading to the filing of petitions against them by staff of the EC that eventually led to their removal from office.
The petition to the president made allegations of corruption and breach of procurement processes.
Speaking at the Accra Dialogue series on the theme: ‘Consolidating Ghana’s democratic governance: The role of the Electoral Commission’, Dr Afari-Gyan said: ”Nobody would be happy”, adding: “If you are unhappy, I share the same feeling with you.”
