Human rights lawyer, Francis Xavier Sosu has argued that lawyer Akoto Ampaw is more than competent to be appointed as the Independent Prosecutor but his affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) makes him a bad choice.
In his view, lawyer Ampaw has an impeccable legacy in the legal fraternity especially championing human rights campaigns and fair justice however, his appointment as an Independent Prosecutor raises a lot of questions.
He said, there are some few issues regarding his appointment because some individuals may also raise issues in terms of his works and major cases, he has defended and whether he will be independent.
He said the nominee who has been tipped must prove beyond reasonable doubt that, he will prosecute everyone without political colorization.
He recounted how lawyer Akoto Ampaw represented Dr. Wereko Brobbey who was then the Ghana@50 chair over allegation of embezzlement.
According to him, it was obvious in the minds of Ghanaians that Dr. Brobbey was corrupt but was represented by lawyer Ampaw who has now been appointed as Special Prosecutor.
Lawyer Sosu indicated that people may have the perception that he [Ampaw] may not prosecute members of the NPP.
He concluded by congratulating him but admonished him to be firm.
