President John Mahama has warned Ghanaians not to get inveigled by the numerous utopian promises made by the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo - describing him as a “spectator.”
According to him, even though, admittedly Akufo-Addo has the “best ideas” he lacks the mental finesse to deliver as he possess the traits of a spectator with fine footballing ideas, but cannot do anything when put on the field of play.
Addressing supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Tuesday, during his campaign tour of the Eastern region, Mahama said being president is a difficult job, needing someone strong.
“If you go to the stadium you will think the spectators are better than Dede Ayew and the rest and they usually go like ‘if I were him, I would have played it this way’ but when you give him the chance that person cannot even throw his leg.
“So those of us who are working need to be focused and continue to do the work that the people of Ghana voted us to do,” he told the supporters amidst loud cheers.
Meanwhile, Akufo-Addo who is also touring the Volta region, said the NDC’s handling of the economy over the past eight years has been nothing but disaster.
Mahama, he continued, is a monumental failure and the only achievement he can tout is the “Green book.”
Akufo-Addo said when addressing Togbui Agamela IV, the acting Paramount Chief of Peki Traditional Council in the South Dayi Constituency, that the “time has come for us to put people in office who are capable of giving this country a really effective and efficient government, so that we can make progress in our country.”
“The President is going around telling everybody that in his next term, he is going to create jobs. In his next term, he’s going to concentrate on agriculture. Everything is in his next term. He doesn’t tell us anything about what is going on now.
“He’s been in power for eight years, and apart from the green book, we don’t know what else he’s been able to produce,” added Akufo-Addo.
