President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has united Ghana with the meeting he organised with the three former presidents at the seat of government, the Flagstaff House on Tuesday, 18 April, Dr Eric Opoku, political communications lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, has said.

According to him, the president and the three ex-presidents deserve commendation over the action they took.

On Tuesday, 18 April, Nana Akufo-Addo had a closed door meeting with Mr Jerry John Rawlings, Mr John Agyekum Kufuor, and Mr John Dramani Mahama.

The meeting was to enable the president seek their views on some governance-enhancing measures his administration intended to take.

Speaking on this development in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, on Accra100.5FM on Wednesday, 19 April, Dr Opoku said: “Admittedly, members of the two main political parties in Ghana have made one or two unpleasant comments about each other. But since all these leaders have been able to come together to sit around one table to deliberate on issues affecting the country, it has sent a signal out there to their numerous supporters that they can have their differences along political lines but it doesn’t make them enemies.”

“This meeting by the ex-presidents and the sitting president is the first of its kind in Ghana and even across the African continent and it is good for our democracy. In a way it unites all of us on the larger political scene.”
