President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has established a five-member ministerial committee to review the government's ongoing fight against illegal mining, known as "galamsey."
The committee, which includes key ministers like National Security Minister Albert Kan-Dapaah and Natural Resources Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor, will assess the effectiveness of current anti-galamsey measures and recommend reforms.
They will also address challenges faced by law enforcement in combating illegal mining.
This move follows growing public concern over environmental damage, with rivers and forests at risk of sparking a potential water crisis.
