Francis-Xavier Sosu, lead sponsor of the Witchcraft Bill, remains hopeful that President Akufo-Addo will sign the bill into law as a final act of his presidency.
Sosu emphasized that signing the bill, which aims to ban witchcraft accusations and protect vulnerable individuals, would cement the President's legacy as a human rights advocate.
Despite the President's hesitation to sign private members' bills that affect the Consolidated Fund, Sosu and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) urge action to resolve any legal concerns.
Passed by Parliament on July 28, 2023, the bill has faced delays in presidential approval.
