John Jinapor, MP for Yapei-Kusawgu, has urged Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to allow Speaker Alban Bagbin to rule on whether MPs who declare independence from their parties can keep their seats.
Afenyo-Markin hinted at seeking a Supreme Court injunction to stop the Speaker from ruling, but Jinapor criticized this as unnecessary and premature.
He pointed out that a similar ruling was made by former Speaker Mike Oquaye in 2020, which the NPP supported.
Jinapor warned that blocking the Speaker's decision could raise suspicions of judicial bias and affect Parliament's balance of power.
