At the Ghana Report Summit, Gayheart Mensah has challenged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over his suggestion that police arrests could combat fake news.
Mensah argued that using arrests to address misinformation undermines free speech, a fundamental right enshrined in Ghana's Constitution.
He emphasized that the courts, not the police, should handle fake news cases, warning that police involvement could lead to abuses of power and harm democracy.
Mensah also highlighted that such measures could deter free expression, negatively
impact press freedom, and discourage foreign investment.
