Workers of Sakondi-based Ghana Households Utility Company (GHUMCO) Wednesday morning had to run for their lives after they detected gas leakage within the premises of the company.
According to a worker who spoke to Empire News’ Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan, a gas tanker came to discharge gas but realised the gas was leaking causing chaos at the facility.
The workers were advised by management to leave the company for safer environments and quickly called in the Fire service who stabilised the situation.
The situation compelled the fire service and the police to block the main Takoradi-Sekondi road.
It will be recalled that two years ago the company witnessed a serious gas explosion injuring more than one hundred people.
The Western Regional Security council then put together a committee that investigated the circumstances leading to the explosion, the committee after its report recommended that GHUMCO should always ensure that there are fire service personnel around anytime they discharge Gas but that has not been fully observed by the company.
