Health authorities in the Ashanti Region are concerned about a significant rise in measles and rubella cases, which have increased by over 100% in the past two years.

Reported cases jumped from 4 in 2021 to 24 in 2022, and 79 in 2023.

So far in 2024, there have been 119 cases.

Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng, the incoming Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, attributes this surge to gaps in vaccine administration.

To address the issue, a supplementary vaccination campaign is scheduled from October 2 to October 6, 2024, to protect more children from these diseases.
