Assemblymember, 8 others arrested over unlawful damage of queen mother's residence

The agitated mob led by the Assemblymember of the area, Richmond Sorgbordjor, stormed the residence of the queen mother to register their displeasure over what they term as her refusal to allow them to practice open defecation in a nearby bush.

Some of the residents alleged that the queen mother on several occasions deployed thugs to “assault” persons caught in the act of publicly defecating in the open.

Naa Borle Wulu II had protested the practice due to the health implication considering the fact that their ‘place of convenience’ is a stone’s throw away from her residence.

According to a police report copied to GhanaWeb, the armed mob of about 200 people attacked the queen mother with machetes, sticks, cudgels, and stones destroying her property.

Upon sighting the police at the scene, the Assemblymember incited the group to attack the Police Patrol Teams with stones and in the cause destroyed the right back window glass of an unregistered Nissan saloon car used by the Divisional Crime Officer.

The Police Patrol Teams led by the Divisional Crime Officer, Supt. Bernard Ananga arrested nine persons including the Assemblymember, a female, and seven other males. The police monitoring the area have restored calm.
