The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) may have to postpone the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) due to a financial shortfall of approximately GH₵90 million.
According to WAEC’s Director of Public Affairs, John Kapi, despite printing the exam papers, there are insufficient funds for distribution and monitoring. Kapi emphasized the urgency of government funding to proceed with the exams.
Historically, WAEC has never delayed exams due to monetary issues. Kapi also advised students to continue their studies amidst the uncertainty.
The Minority caucus on the Education Committee has called for a meeting with relevant ministers to resolve the funding issue.
