Following a Supreme Court ruling on November 12, 2024, that declared Speaker Alban Bagbin’s actions unconstitutional, former Attorney General Martin Amidu criticized Bagbin's defiance.
The controversy began when Bagbin declared four MPs’ seats vacant after they announced their intent to run as independents, despite a Court order on October 8, later reaffirmed on October 30, instructing him otherwise.
Amidu condemned Bagbin's refusal to uphold the Court’s directive, describing it as a challenge to judicial authority and damaging to parliamentary cohesion.
He warned this defiance could have lasting negative effects, undermining legislative cooperation and trust within Parliament, especially with upcoming December elections.
