Zebilla MP Cletus Avoka has rejected calls for a state of emergency in Bawku, despite rising tensions after violent clashes that left eight travelers dead.
The unrest escalated following the return of a rival chief, prompting increased security measures and a curfew from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the region.
Speaking to Citi News, Avoka argued that declaring a state of emergency would severely restrict campaign activities ahead of the upcoming elections, limiting citizens' rights and freedoms. He stated that the situation does not warrant such drastic measures at this time.
