Be cautious with remarks on galamsey – Rev. Opuni-Frimpong to politicians

Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, former General Secretary of the Christian Council, has called on politicians to be cautious in their comments about illegal mining, or galamsey.

He criticized contradictory statements from government officials that seem to justify harmful practices, warning they could alienate public concern.

Opuni-Frimpong urged continued public pressure on the government to address the environmental impacts of galamsey and encouraged collective action, including from academic groups, to ensure that the issue is taken seriously.
