Bede Ziedeng is no competition for me – Karbo

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Lawra, Anthony Karbo has said he does not see Bede Ziedeng, who is the ruling National Democratic Congress' (NDC) Parliamentary candidate, as competition.

According to him, Bede Zeideng, who is the NDC’s former deputy General Secretary and former deputy Minister of the Upper West Region, woefully failed the good people of Lawra after he was unable to use his high office and influence in government to ensure development in the area.

Bede Ziedeng during the NDC’s recently held parliamentary elections beat the incumbent Member of Parliament Sampson Abu by a slender 16 votes to win the ticket to represent the party as the candidate for next year’s legislative polls.

He is expected to square off with Anthony Karbo, a deputy Communications Director of the opposition NPP, who is not new to parliamentary elections in Lawra as he contested in the 2012 polls losing by some 6,000 votes to the incumbent MP.

But speaking to Kasapafmonline.com, Anthony Karbo, who expressed confidence of wrestling power from the NDC in the 2016 polls, insisted that his chances were bright, as the constituents have a burning desire to see Lawra, which is one of the oldest districts in the Northern territory, experience real development.

“Government made various promises to the people of Lawra including building of training college, …we have not seen it, construction of the Babli irrigation project which is supposed to be the nerve centre to give extension farmers lots of ideas on how to increase crop yield …we are not seeing that kind of support, and the state of roads in the districts is nothing to write home about. The lack of jobs for young people is alarming, and so they are looking for a leader who has the exposure, one who can raise the issues to draw government’s attention and also bring in investment to open up that part of the country which can bring in a lot of cross-border trade from Burkina Faso. They see that leader in me.

Anthony Karbo expressed his commitment to support women of the area to enter into small-scale farming and petty trading which will ultimately take them out of the shackles of poverty.
