The defeat of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the just-ended presidential and parliamentary elections could largely be attributed to the demeanour of some government appointees, Victor Kojoga Adawudu, a private legal practitioner and member of the NDC, has said.

Apart from the demeanour of the appointees, he said issues relating to premix fuel that were not properly addressed may have also accounted for the defeat of the NDC.

The EC on Friday December 9 announced that the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), now president-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, got 53 per cent of total votes to beat President John Dramani Mahama and five other candidates to become the next president.

Speaking on Metro TV in connection with the NDC’s defeat, Mr Adawudu said: “More works have to be done [on why the NDC lost]; one of the things I also feel will be the demeanour of some of the appointees, but we need to do research and find out, reorganise, and know the issues.

“Premix was one of the issues that we suffered. I was in the Western Region, I was in the Central Region during the election … because I have to monitor, and when I went to almost all the coastal communities, one of the issues that came out was about premix. These are the issues that were there but not well managed.”
