Bullion van heists: Why did Police send two robbery suspects to a criminal hideout? - Agyenim-Boateng asks

A former Deputy Information Minister, James Agyenim Boateng, has questioned operational decisions that led to the killing of two police officers arrested for their involvement in recent bullion van robberies.

The Ghana Police Service in its March 8, 2022 statement announcing the arrest of four extra policemen who are involved in bullion van heists said two earlier suspects who were picked up were killed in a shootout that led to the arrest of the four.

The raid was said to be carried out at Borteyman near Ashaiman in Accra.

But reacting to the news of the death of the two Policemen, James Agyenim-Boateng indicated that the Police is not giving the country the full picture of happenings that led to the death of the two earlier suspects.

“Which police institution takes its most valuable suspects to the hideout of dangerous gun-possessing criminals? Isn’t it just like saying “hey criminals, we are bringing the evidence bearing-witnesses/ suspects for you to wipe them out”? (I’m not saying that’s what happened),” he questioned.

He added: “Apart from the two suspects who were killed, did anyone on the police team get injured or maimed from the reported exchange of gun fire?”
