Celebrities can’t promote alcoholic drinks – Supreme Court upholds FDA ban

The Supreme Court has upheld the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA)'s directive preventing celebrities from endorsing alcoholic drinks, ending a 19-month legal suit by Mark Darlington Osae, CEO of Black Kulcha Music.

Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo ruled that the FDA's directive does not violate the constitution, thus banning well-known personalities from promoting alcoholic beverages.

The FDA's 2015 directive aims to prevent minors from being influenced into alcoholism by celebrities.

Osae argued the directive was discriminatory against the creative arts industry, but the court's decision supports the FDA's stance on public health and safety.
