Certified Africa, a travelling organisation, as part of the “Year of Return," has held a dinner party to welcome 57 African-Americans from the Diaspora.

Dubbed: 'New Year in the Mother,' it seeks to ensure that the African-Americans are connected to their roots.

Nii Armah Quaye, a Co-Founder of Certified Africa, speaking with the Ghana News Agency at the event, noted that the visitors would be staying in the country for eight days.

He said activities had been outlined for the eight days to enable the African-Americans remember the 400th anniversary of the first slave to arrive in the United States.

Nii Armah Quaye said places to be visited included the Cape Coast Castle, the Kakum National Park in the Central Region, and the Aqua Safari Resort at Ada in the Greater Accra Region.

There will also be business sessions for the visitors to share their entrepreneurial talents for development.

"The business session will expose them to business opportunities in the country so they would know the type of investment to engage in," he said.

"All these activities are geared towards making Ghana the seat of African emancipation”.

He said Certified Africa is in partnership with the tourism industry to take advantage of the events to boost the economic fortunes of the country.

Nii Armah expressed the hope that the activities would increase the number of visitors next year.

The "Year of Return" took inspiration from the Joseph Project and leaders such as Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Dr George Padmore, and Dr W.E.B Du Bois, who led and gave foundation to Pan Africanism with series of activities, actions and interactions spearheaded in Ghana.
