Chief Justice shuts 7 courts over Bawku killings

Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo has ordered the immediate closure of seven courts in Bawku and nearby areas, including the High Court and Circuit Courts in Bolgatanga.

This decision follows escalating tensions in Bawku, where Seidu Abagre’s controversial enskinment as Bawku Naba in 2023 has intensified factional conflicts, resulting in 16 deaths.

To ensure the safety of judges, staff, and court users, all court activities are suspended, and registrars have been instructed to secure court assets.

Court staff are advised to prioritize their safety during this period.
