The Christian Council of Ghana has descended heavily on government and the international community for neglecting religious bodies in the fight against Ebola.

The Council says its members have waited too long to be invited on board to help in the fight against the deadly virus, which has so far claimed over 5,000 lives in West Africa.

Speaking at a forum organized by TV3 Network to discuss the disease, the General Secretary of the Council, Reverend Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, cited the neglect of the Council to be part of the Inter-Ministerial Team on Ebola as a case in point.

“At what point will you want to bring some of us into the plan?” he asked.

He pointed out that the first place patients - especially on the African continent - run to is the churches, mosques and traditional centers of healing.

“We have not been invited,” Dr Opuni-Frimpong lamented.

He noted that the situation is more considerate for churches and mosques.

“As for the traditional priest, it must be worse.”

He said their doors are open and must be brought on board in the fight against the virus in the subregion.
