Security Analyst Col. Festus Aboagye (RTD) and former Minister of National Security Francis Poku have criticized Ghana's democratic system, stating it has failed to deliver its promised benefits after over 30 years.
During a public lecture on July 1, Poku expressed concerns over the growing loss of confidence in democracy, warning of potential political instability.
Col. Aboagye, in a July 2 interview, argued that democracy in Ghana is mistakenly viewed as merely voting every four years.
He emphasized that true democracy should improve citizens' well-being, but noted worsening economic conditions, rampant corruption, and ineffective governance as indicators of its failure.
