The dynamics of politics within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is becoming ugly with certain figures playing the ‘Mr. Clean’ game. One of such figures is no other than Nana Akomea, Communications Director of the party.

Nana Akomea was the first person to disclaim figures that the party is challenging in the Supreme Court in the petition filed by its flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, his running mate, Mahamudu Bawumia and party Chairman Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey.

The NPP spokesman was on Multi Media’s Asempa FM in Accra, before the party filed the petition at the Supreme Court, and said that the over one million votes that the party was challenging, as quoted by the general secretary of the party, was a joke.

He said on the radio station that he had personally spoken with the general secretary who told him that the figure was a joke.

But a member of the National Council (NEC) of the party has told The Enquirer that Nana Akomea was disingenuous to the party and more especially to the general secretary of the party and must therefore apologize.

The NEC member, who had over one- hour conversation with The Enquirer early hours of yesterday, on current wrangling within the NPP and wants to remain anonymous, said that Nana Akomea after causing that mess is still behaving as if nothing took place.

“It was shocking for the director of communications to rubbish what was coming from the general secretary of the party and I think now that the petitioners are quoting over 1.3 million as the votes they are challenging, Nana Akomea should apologize,” he said.

Sounding so sad about what is currently going on in the NPP, he said that it was clear that Nana Akomea wanted to look ‘Mr. Clean’ at the expense of the whole general secretary of the party.

“If not for anything , the general secretary was in better position to know the figure the party was talking about, so what were the motives of Nana Akomea claiming that he had spoken to the general secretary who said he was joking”, he said.

He told The Enquirer that the NPP has gotten to the point where some people want others to look bad among the supporters and Ghanaians at large. “This agenda is simple and at the right time those with wicked intentions will be pursued appropriately,” he said.

According to him, Nana Akomea should have been the last person to condemn somebody like Dr. Wereko-Brobby because disclaiming the figure the general secretary quoted was worse than what Dr. Wereko Brobby said.

“Why is Nana Akomea not disclaiming what the petitioners quoted and why is he not disclaiming what Gabby Otchere-Darko said to the effect that the figure had gone up. This should tell all right-thinking party people that all is not well and people have secret agenda,” he added.

Nana Akomea before the petition could be filed at the Supreme Court had discounted the number of votes that NPP intended to challenge at the court as put out by the general secretary of the party.

In an interview with KABA of Asempa FM, he claimed that he had a conversation with the general secretary on the figure and he told him it was a joke.

It is however unclear whether indeed the general secretary had told him anything like that or not. Party insiders say that radio was not the appropriate forum Nana Akomea to say things like that.
