The Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, was cleared of any wrongdoing by the committee that investigated the leaked tape in which some senior officers were alleged to be plotting his removal.
The committee found no evidence to support the claims against him. The officers accused Dr. Dampare of actions that could harm the New Patriotic Party’s electoral prospects and alleged indiscriminate arrests of officers from sister security agencies.
The committee highlighted that the conspiracy by the three officers posed a threat to Ghana’s democracy and referred two officers to the Privileges Committee for lying before the house.
