The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has described Ghana’s political atmosphere as “generally peaceful” as the country nears the 2024 general elections.
In a press statement issued on November 18, 2024, and signed by National Coordinator Albert Kofi Arhin, CODEO commended the largely issue-based campaigns across 97 constituencies monitored by its Long-Term Observers (LTOs).
No incidents of violence, intimidation, or harassment against women were recorded.
Key findings highlighted improvements in voter education by the Electoral Commission and noted that campaigns remain dominated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC).
However, CODEO expressed concerns over voter education gaps, incumbency abuse, and vote-buying.
The group urged stakeholders to intensify civic education and uphold a fair and peaceful electoral process.
