Dr. Rasheed Draman, Executive Director of the African Center for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA), has expressed concerns over the timing of Speaker Alban Bagbin's decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant, especially with elections nearing.
He acknowledged that while the legal framework allows such actions, it should be approached cautiously due to its significant political and parliamentary impact.
Dr. Draman urged for calm, advocating that the Supreme Court should clarify the matter, and all parties should respect its ruling to preserve democratic processes. He also discouraged the NPP’s parliamentary boycott, noting its potential negative consequences during this critical period.
