The Electoral Commission has assured temporal staff it recruited for the just ended referenda for the creation of the new regions their delayed allowances will be paid next week.
The aggrieved staff have been agitating over the delay in payment of their allowances since the exercise about 4 months ago.
But appearing before the public accounts committee on Monday 29 April, the Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Jean Mensah revealed the finance ministry has released funds for the payment.
“We have had just recently, I think on Thursday notified by the Ministry of Finance that they gave us a warrant indicating that they had released the monies to us. So, we have just started processing it on the GIFECs platform.
“So, we are hoping that by the end of next week payments would have been made to the temporary staff,” Mrs Mensah stated.
She also conceded the commission flouted the public finance management Act for withdrawing huge sums of physical cash at the regions in 2014 as cited in the 2016 Auditor General report.
