A total of 75 major markets in the Volta Region are undergoing disinfection by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in partnership with Zoomlion to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, addressing stakeholders before the start of the exercise in the Volta Region, said the exercise had taken off smoothly in the various districts, and being closely monitored.
He said some streets would also be disinfected as spittle and other bodily fluids could carry the virus.
Zoomlion is employing drones, knapsack spraying machines, thermal foggers, and mechanized road sweepers for the exercise, which is under the watch and partnership of the Regional Co-odinating Council, and the various sanitation, security and emergency agencies and departments.
All marked markets have been emptied ahead of the exercise and are being heavily guarded.
