The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) must probe the litany of allegations and counter-allegations being thrown about by the Chair of the Electoral Commission and her Deputy Commissioners, Dr Richard Amoako Baah, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said.
The allegations of fraud, financial malfeasance and corruption, he said, can compromise the work of the election management body.
Mrs Osei has been accused by her staff of fraud and financial malfeasance. They have petitioned President Nana Akufo-Addo for her removal. Mrs Osei responded with counter-allegations in the same breadth.
Speaking on this matter in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Tuesday July 25, Dr Baah said: “The EC chair’s own statement shows clearly that all is not well.” “There has been criminal allegations made and so there should be thorough investigations into it.”
“The first order or way forward is for an outside body like EOCO and BNI to go in there and do a thorough investigation, talk to the people there, look at the papers and look at all the allegations that have been made. If anybody is found to have engaged in any wrongdoing, that person should be dealt with no matter where you stand; whether you are NPP or NDC, the rule of law must apply. These are not just mere allegations that should be swept under the carpet.”
