A former fellow of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Professor Ransford Gyampo has cautioned staff of the Electoral Commission (EC) to psyche themselves up for a strong work ethic when Mrs Jean Mensah assumes office as the Chairperson of the Commission.

According to him, Jean Mensah whose competence is above board is a workaholic and an achiever who will not countenance any lazy work at the offices of the election management body.

“She’s a very hard working person my warning to the EC staff those that she’s going to work with is that they should sit up. Because this woman could work from morning till dawn and she’s a goal-getter. She knows how to achieve her target and all that. And so if she’s going to go to the Electoral Commission with the same mentality then I think our electoral processes will see a lot of improvement,” Prof. Gyampo told Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Starr FM.

When asked by the Host about the perception that Jean Mensah is haughty and looks down on people, Prof. Gyampo responded “I don’t think so and like said I wouldn’t have been able to work with her for fourteen years. But of course, even if there are personal issues people have with her I want to believe that, what happened to the former Chairperson of the EC will guide all the appointees.”

President Akufo-Addo on July 19 announced Mrs Mensa who is the Executive Director of the Institute for Economic Affairs (IEA) as the chairperson-nominee of the EC.

She is to replace Charlotte Osei who was removed with her two deputies – Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwah – by the President following recommendations by a committee set up by the Chief Justice to probe a petition against them.

Mrs. Mensah was nominated with three others including Samuel Tettey, Dr Eric Asare Bossman to fill the gap left behind by the sacked two Deputies chairpersons of the EC.
