An isolation center 300 meters away from the Kotoka International Airport has been erected to cater for any passenger who arrives at the airport showing signs of the deadly Ebola disease.

Four ambulances have also been put on stand-by to carry seriously ill patients to the nearest referral point, the 37 Military Hospital.

These came to the fore on Friday, August 15 when an Ebola preparedness exercise was conducted for health workers at the country’s only international airport.

The workers were made to don what has become known as the Ebola protective gears and made to use the digital thermometers to check the temperatures of incoming passengers.

Passengers who reported temperatures above 37 Degree Celsius will be quarantined at the Center, which takes six people at a time though expandable to take additional two.

Head of Port Health Dr Samuel Fiafeti noted that a crack select team will be put in charge of the Center and will offer first aid after which an suspected Ebola passengers will be taken to the 37 Military Hospital for further treatment.

He said those from Ebola-affected countries irrespective of their disposition, will be thoroughly screened at the Airport.

All these efforts are to ensure Ghana’s preparedness to fight the pandemic, which has so far killed over 1,000 West African nationals since its outbreak in February, 2014.
