University of Ghana lecturer Prof. Ransford Gyampo has warned that a worsening standoff between Ghana’s Parliament and the Supreme Court could lead to chaos if left unresolved.
The Supreme Court recently upheld a ruling that halted Speaker Alban Bagbin’s attempt to declare four parliamentary seats vacant, which Bagbin challenged.
Prof. Gyampo, speaking on Joy FM, emphasized the need for the Council of State and senior leaders to mediate, as high partisanship is limiting constructive dialogue.
The Council of State, led by Nana Otuo Siriboe II, has since met with Speaker Bagbin, who plans to recall Parliament in early November.
