Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the NPP's Vice-Presidential Candidate, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to protecting water bodies and forest reserves while allowing responsible mining practices in Ghana.
Speaking on Peace FM, Dr. Prempeh emphasized that mining will continue due to its economic benefits, such as supporting the Gold-for-Oil policy.
However, mining will not occur in sensitive areas like water bodies or forest reserves. He stressed the importance of responsible mining practices, discouraging the use of harmful chemicals like mercury and prioritizing environmental protection while supporting community and small-scale miners.
