As Ghana’s December 7 elections approach, the Zongo Traditional Council of Chiefs has called on political supporters, especially Zongo youth, to ensure violence-free campaigns.
The council’s appeal follows recent clashes between New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in Maamobi, Accra, and Ejura, Ashanti Region—both recognized hotspots in previous elections.
At a press conference in Kumasi, the council emphasized unity, urging Zongo residents to reject political divisions.
Alhaji Abdul Mumin Abubakar Ali, the group’s Secretary, stressed that “politics should foster development, not destabilize peace.”
The chiefs also charged the Electoral Commission to uphold transparency and credibility in managing the polls.
“No political cause is worth dying for,” Alhaji Abubakar Ali reiterated, urging all parties to embrace tolerance and respect diverse views.
