A fire on Thursday night destroyed the three-storey “Father Hostel” at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), severely damaging the student accommodation.
The cause remains unknown, but nine rooms were reduced to rubble, and nine students lost all their belongings. No casualties were reported.
The fire spread quickly from a single room, and a delay in response from the KNUST Fire Department exacerbated the damage. The building is now uninhabitable.
The KNUST Students' Representative Council (SRC) has arranged temporary accommodation at the SRC hostel and urged adherence to safety protocols to prevent future incidents.
