Fire has gutted the boys dormitory block of Collins Senior High School at Agogo in the Ashanti Akim North Municipality of the Ashanti region, MyNewsGh.com has confirmed.
Though no one has been injured, the inferno is reported to have displaced more than 350 students and destroyed property of the students running into several thousands of Ghana cedis.
MyNewsGh.com gathered it occurred at about 1pm on Saturday March 2, 2019 from the first floor of the two-storey building.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established but it took fire fighters several hours to douse the inferno even after they delayed in responding.
Authorities who confirmed the incident to MyNewsGh.com disclosed that books, chalk boxes, mattress and other belongings of the students including their school uniforms were not spared.
The victims who spoke MyNewsGh.com said they saw thick smoke from the dormitory and started raising an alarm but before help came, the fire had starting consuming their belongings
According to the students themselves, authorities of the school called in officials of the Ghana National Fire Service while they made an attempt to put out the fire using various means but to no avail
They revealed that the personnel from Ghana National Fire Service delayed.
Authorities disclosed that the displaced students will be temporarily housed in classrooms until such a time they are able to find alternative accommodation for them calling on government and benevolent organisations to come to their aid.
