The Donkorkrom District Police Command has arrested a Fulani herdsman who was part of a five-member kidnapping gang that kidnapped a 20-year-old.
The suspect, Halidu Sambo,34, has been transferred to the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters assisting with investigations.
According to the deputy Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, Sergent Francis Gomado, on February 29,2020, one Abubakari Ibrahim, a resident of Tease, accompanied by the Sariki Sambo Iddrisa – the Fulani Chief of Donkorkrom lodged a complaint at the Donkorkrom Police that his 20-year-old Son, Abubakari Yahaya had been kidnapped the previous day.
He said when he called his son on a mobile phone to know his whereabouts, a strange person picked the call and told him the son has been kidnapped at Atensu near Tease.
The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Ghc5000 from him before they will release him.
The victim was released the next day after the ransom was paid.
Police investigation led to the arrest of the suspect Halidu Sambo, who has named the leader of the five-member kidnapping gang known as “Denji”.
All the accomplices are now at large. Efforts are underway to arrest them.
